With the health industry booming and people realizing that western medicine isn’t the only course of action for many ailments, the massage industry has also gained in size and profits in the last few years. This has caused many people to flood the market and offer their services, after they’ve been trained and received their certification, to charge less and less and make it more available to more people. However, there are a few conflicts of interest that do come up when dealing with customers on such an intimate level.

One problem that arose a few years ago, and occurred with a moderate frequency, was that the masseuse and/or the client would become sexually attracted to people. This led many companies to enact policies that strictly forbade men to massage women and women to massage men in their place of business. Of course this did, in the end, help to reduce the sexual and provocative thoughts and contact and the lawsuits that resulted from these inappropriate actions for the most part. Nevertheless, there is also a faction of people that was forgotten in this mess and would often find themselves not able to seek out the services of a qualified massage therapist.

The homosexual community has dealt with many adversities in the short time that their plight has become public. In many cases, common sense prevails and gay people have, for the most part, been granted the same rights and privileges as their straight counterparts. However, massage therapy services are not one of these areas as many businesses still enforce the no erotic massaging rule which could be misconstrued. Thankfully, there are many businesses, far outnumbering the others, that are making it their goal to be able to serve everyone, regardless of sexuality and have begun labeling themselves as gay friendly.
